A Mugging in Utopia (excerpt)

A Lover Revisits his Enigma Status

The upstairs bedroom
and its entrance to
that other world,
is guarded with precision
as the night demurs.
Warning tickets litter
the hallway and stairs.
Departing in a handful of scrotum,
octaves increase like years.

I found a plastic bag on the beach
and its cryptic price tag,
“Suspect number one has
satisfied our inquiries
and shall from this point on
be referred to as The Quarry.”
I didn’t follow the footprints
up into the sand dunes
as it was already past Two,
and my game show had started.
